Easy Planting Instructions

1. Pick out a spot that drains well, does not stand in water for long periods of time.

2. For blackberries it helps to plant in full sun or at least the afternoon sun. DO NOT plant where tomatoes, potatoes, or wild berries have grown for at least 3 years. They could have left behind soil born disease that could affect your new planting. Our berry plants are from tissue culture, certified to be disease free, clean stock to assure no disease. Our disease free plants can produce for 10-15 years. We also treat our plants with a bacteria to prevent crown gall.

3. For 1 plant (NO TILL) mark the spot where you intend to plant.

4. Spray a 3-4 foot circle with Glyphosate which comes in many brands such as Round-up, Ours is called Killzall Weed and Grass Killer.

5. The grass will stay green for several days, but it is dead and the roots will die. Leave the dead grass because it will brown out and serve as a mulch.

6. Put some fertilizer, 3 tablespoons in a 2 ft. circle around the plant. (about a handful) You can use Tree & Shrub food, garden fertilizer, Miracle Grow 5-10-5, 12-12-12, 10-10-10 or other product with similar numbers.

7. Water it well and don't let it dry out. The best way to water is by putting the hose on mist, lay it down and mist a large area around the plant, not just the plant. This acts as a water reservoir around the area.

For more than one plant follow the same general directions, but use Glyphosate weed killer and make a 3-4 ft wide weed/grass free area the length of your row, then plant in the green grass the next day. (NO TILL)

Another time saver is to use a granular weed preventer around the plants where you used the Glyphosate. Some popular brands are Preen, Treflan, Balon, and Dacthul. These are the products commonly used to prevent crabgrass from germinating.
