All our blackberries, blueberries and Caroline raspberry are from tissue culture. This is the preferred method of producing disease and virus free plants to begin with. Our Heritage and Polka raspberry plants come from root cutting which are one year out of tissue culture. They have been planted in soil that has been treated with methyl-bromide, steam, or another soil sterilizer to kill all soil born pathogens. These root cuttings, before we get them, have been tested and certified by the California Agricultural Dept. to insure virus and disease free plants.

Before we pot any tissue culture plant or root cutting we dip the plants and roots in a product called NOGALL, which is a non pathogenic bacteria that will live in the roots and prevent another bacteria that causes crown gall.  Crown gall reduces yield significantly and can kill the affected plants. Symptoms are large or small warty like structures on the stems or roots. Once crown gall symptoms appear there is almost  nothing economically feasible to stop the disease and yield is reduced.
